26/09/2023 – With 66 entries in total representing Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany and France, the $ 49.000 added NRHA Belgium Open Futurity for 3- and 4-year-old horses concluded Saturday at Reining Center Meertenhof in Grathem can be credited to the books as a success. In the $ 32.000 added L4 division there were 31 entries. Posting a 227,0 Arnaud Girinon (FRA) piloted the 4-year-old gelding Shinersvoodoojunior [Shiners Voodoo] owned by Ulrich Laudenklos convincingly to the title, taking over the leading position from Grischa Ludwig (GER) who earlier in the competition posted a 225,5 with the 4-year-old stallion Chic Weasel owned by Georg Wiedenhofen. Arnaud: “Shinersvoodoojunior aka JR was brought to me when he was 2 years old and since then I have been riding him. I had good expectations and trust coming to the Belgium Futurity since he behaved well in that arena the year before. When we arrived in Grathem JR tried to comfort himself in his box, rolling over and injured his behind leg. I really thought it was over for him for this show, but luckily it was just a superficial injury, some hair pulled out and some scratches. I made some mistakes in the schooling classes and worked on them. I thought JR was well prepared but after I heard Grischa’s score I wasn’t expecting to go over that, but honestly JR felt great in the warm up and I started to feel comfortable. I like to show him on the snaffle bit and for this competition I made that choice. I actually did not have to work him before entering the arena and he didn’t let me down. This show was well organized and it’s always nice to go there. On Saturday all our horses were doing well. It really put me in a good mindset and I guess JR felt that.”
Bernard Fonck (BEL) piloted the 4-year-old stallion The Spook Is Dun [Spooks Gotta Whiz] owned by FC American Horses Cerantola to a 225,5 as well, resulting in the co-Reserve Champion title. In de $ 10.500 added L3 division counting 33 entries Emanuel Ernst (GER) came forward very strong. Posting a 222,5 he rode the 4-year-old stallion LT Commander Data MM [Colonels Shining Gun] owned by Michaela Kautz to the title and posting a 221,5 he placed 3rd with the 4-year-old gelding VH Tony Spark [Smart N Sparkin] owned by Kathrin Vetter. Posting a 222,0, reserve honors were for the 4-year-old stallion GP Sparkin N Muffin [Smart N Sparkin] owned by Golden Paint Ranch and ridden by Gilles Huyghe (BEL). In the $ 5.300 added L2 division counting 41 entries Ernst claimed both the title and reserve title. Posting a 221,0 the 4-year-old mare ND Special Pop [Gunners Special Nite] owned by Pia Pickhardt and ridden by Kim Obenhaus (GER) placed 3rd. The $ 2.100 added L1 division counted 21 entries and the podium had to be adjusted. 3 Combinations posted a 225,0 and preferred a co-Championship above a run-off: Pascal Elmers with the personally owned 4-year-old stallion A Dream N Wrangler [Magnum Chic Dream], Nike Lorenz with the 4-year old mare Mobsters Darling [HF Mobster] owned by Susanne Lorenz and Denis Hermann with the 3-year-old stallion SG Exx Colonel [Exxcaliber] owned by Barbara Hüntelmann.
